The success of our economy tomorrow, depends on educating students today!

Working with our schools in different capacities from the classroom to the Union County school board to the advisory committee of the North Carolina Virtual Public School, has shown me that simply pouring money into the system is not the answer.  As a member of the Union County School Board, I see first-hand every the day the challenges facing our schools. After umpteen “education governors” and like-minded DPI leaders, I am not happy with where they have taken us.

We cannot continue to accept the fact that the education our children receive here in North Carolina and across our nation continues to fall in the global rankings.  To get our schools back on the right track,

  • We must return control of our schools back to our local school systems. One size does not fit all, and our State Department of Instruction needs to adjust its vision to encourage innovative school systems and principals to lead their schools, based on the needs of their students and community.
  • School choice and charter schools need to be options for our students.  Education decisions need to be in the best interest of the student, not the “system.”
  • Our students deserve to earn a high school diploma that has real value. Our students must be prepared to successfully enter college or the workforce. Finally, we must have a Superintendent who will stand up to Washington when they try to dictate to us how and what we teach our children.
  • With Conservative Leadership, efficient and effective are GOOD things.  As one of the elected leaders of Union County Schools, I have learned how to be both efficient, with one of the lowest costs per student, and effective, with some of the highest academic ratings.  I want to share my experiences working with one of the top school systems in North Carolina, as there is much to pass on to others.  One key to improving education is not to throw more money at problems, but to encourage innovation and creativity. One size fits all solutions are not the answer.

With your help, I plan on leading the way with conservative,  innovative and effective leadership.
